Apple iPad: Disadvantages pointed out

All that glitters is not gold
iPad - "A magical and revolutionary product at an unbelievable price", this is what Apple has to say about their new toy. It is the the tagline of the product in Apple's official website. Well guys, let me ask you a question - how much is the resemblence of iPad with iPhone. No doubt, iPhone was a revolutionary product. What it appears to me is that iPad is just a magnified iPhone. The product is more evolutionary than revolutionary.
The iPad is little more than an iPhone and significantly less than a laptop. Having said that let me justify my point. iPad has a 9.7 inch (diagonal) display. Well, this is big enough to browse the internet or read ebooks, but definitely not large enough for gaming and movies. The finger print resistant oleophobic coating is present in both iPad and iPhone and this is a very predictive feature in any touch devices nowadays. Coming to the processor that the iPad uses --1GHz Apple A4 custom-designed, it makes me wonder, how is this device supposed to drive serious gaming. I stress on gaming, browsing and video related applications the most because Apple have repeatedly advertised this device as an entertainment gadget. When I think of the Google Nexus using the 1 GHz SnapDragon processor for its' HTC made mobile phone then it becomes hard for me to believe that an iPad is having a processor with the same speed, yet promising to deliver far far more.
We all know the web as it is now. Think how many flash sites exist in the web. To be honest there is a flury of flash based websites and web applications in the recent years. You can get the sale percentage of flash based website templates from any reputed web template company just to get a clear visibility of its popularity as a web component. To me iPad will be a dead gadget if it does not allow Flash support in the near future. No device as blind as an iPad can stay in the web queue longer than a year. Compare it with the new HP Slate which is also going to get released soon. It runs on the Windows 7 platform and HP is heavily stressing upon the fact that it can run Flash. My money will be fully on HP Slate as it has the sleekness of a tablet and the power of a laptop. Although there are shortcoming in the Slate also, but then that is a different discussion.
Another point that Apple has stressed upon is the reading of ebooks on the iPads. Guess what, the iPad does not have an electronic-paper display technology inbuilt. With E Ink technology a device does not use any power to maintain a page display while only using power when an image is changed. This means that battery consumption is directly proportional to the number of pages you read and not how long the device is ON. Apple promises to deliver upto 10 hours of battery life with a single charge which alhough seems to be descent, is no where in comparison with the E Ink technology where normaly devices using the technology supports upto 8000 pages of reading before the battery dies out.
No doubt that iPhone was a wonder but iPad's a blunder!
Comments
thanks for the comment drbj. Well, we realy have to wait some time to get the actual direction, at least till the initial rush is over.
I have not got chance to review Apple iPad but this hub has definitely helped me in deciding whether to go for or not.
Thanks a lot for giving us proper guidance regarding the gadget!
There seem to be a lot more issues with the ipad, like no USB connectivity and only 64gb(max) data storage. I mean where will it store all the games and video's??
Thanks for all your nice comments.
@AkyB I am missed the points, but they are definitely vital ones.
Just bought one as a present. Big disappointment since ipad can only be used with itunes and a (thus) pc/Mac.
WTF?
Now I have my own doubts on whether to get one ore not.The disadvantages alteast most of them are rightly pointed out.Very informative hub!
The limitations of the iPad vis a vis the price for what it is being offered in India, are far too many , this is definitely not a value for money product, also does not permit any other apps to function apart fm the iTunes major limitation..... Bfore u get enamoured by the product take a closer look at the specs and see if can supt all that u req.. If not for the same price the market has other options....
Re: Rajiv
What!!???
Thanks for offering your personal statement about the tablet. I appreciate your opinion. I thought I was the only one that thought there were limitations. For instance, the playbook has been ridiculed for not having native email, etc and enough apps. However, the flash rocks. For $199 the playbook is better for my money. I don't use gaming apps as much. But, when I pay close to $1300 for 64 GB Ipad. I would expect the darn flash to work. Seriously. They have to fix that and USB output. If I am going to invest; its gotta give me the goods. Thanks for that informative take.

Interesting approach to the iPad. Apple seems to believe they have a winner so we'll have to wait awhile to see how this all plays out.
